Christus Kirche
Description: The Chistus Kirche was designed by Gottlieb Redecker and was officially consecrated in 1910. It is the oldest Evangelical Lutheran church in Namibia. The design of the church is based on the idea of a basilica. It was built in the neo-Romanic style, but also shows the influence of art nouveau. Only local building material was used, except for the Carrara Marble pillared entrance. The outside walls where constructed from quartzite sandstone, which was found and quarried near the present grey Railway Bridge on the Gobabis Road near Avis Dam. All other material was imported from Germany: the roof construction from the firm Eggers in Hamburg and was originally covered with corrugated iron. This was only replaced in 1971 by Harvey tiles during extensive renovations. The stained glass windows were manufactured by the firm Franke, of Hamburg, and the windows of the pulpit were donated by the emperor Willhelm 11 whilst the altar bible was donated by his wife Empress Augusta. The Christus Kirche was proclaimed a national monument on 29 November 1974.Tel: n\a | Fax: n/a

Parts of the original structure have been incorporated into this innovative and chic eco-retreat; the main area is the old farmhouse itself which opens onto a spacious dining area, overlooking a waterhole that is popular with local wildlife. Just south of Etosha National Park’s Andersson Gate, this camp is a perfect base for exploring Namibia’s premier wildlife destination and home to the incredible Etosha Pan. 20 canvas tents on wooden decks offer natural stone en-suite bathrooms and covered verandas looking onto the surrounding bush. Of these, 2 are family units – each with two separate rooms connected by a boardwalk with a shared entrance. A comfortable main area with both sheltered and open air dining, a lounge, pool, bar and several fireplaces have been built around the original farmhouse using elements of the old property. The waterhole in front of the main area offers guests a chance to safely enjoy watching black and white rhino, lion and other general game living in Ongava Reserve coming to drink.

The pan only fills up once within several years, though, when there has been sufficient rain in the area. The famous star dunes of Sossusvlei tower around the depression, offering thousands of themes to photographers – the most beautiful ones early in the morning and late in the afternoon when light and shadow create a more three-dimensional appearance of the landscape.Explore Namibia yourself with a 4x4 Camping car with roof top tent and camping equipment from a Namibia car hire or car rental company in Windhoek.FISH RIVER CANYONThe canyon of the Fish River is one of the main attractions in southern Namibia. Many call it the second largest canyon on earth and compare it to the Grand Canyon of the Colorado River in the US. Some argue that the Fish River Canyon is only the second largest in Africa, after the narrow valley of the Blue Nile.Explore Namibia yourself with a 4x4 Camping car with roof top tent and camping equipment from a Namibia car hire or car rental company in Windhoek.EPUPA FALLSNaked rock rises from lush vegetation between cascades of frothy white waterfalls – a green island in the middle of the barren brown landscape of the surrounding mountains. As yet, travelling routes concentrate on a few villages and connecting roads. The largest part of this huge land, especially the west, is scarcely populated or not at all. Getting there is adventurous to say the least and only possible by 4x4 vehicles.Explore Namibia yourself with a 4x4 Camping car with roof top tent and camping equipment from a Namibia car hire or car rental company in Windhoek.TWYFELFONTEINremains one of the country’s favourable attractions and since June 2007 enjoys the status of being Namibia’s first World Heritage Site, securely tucked away between the granites of an ancient, arid region. Its name when translated directly, means “doubtful fountain” still has most people “doubtful” on the true purpose of the rock art. The site is unusual in Africa as it has both carvings (petroglyphs) and paintings (pictograms).Explore Namibia yourself with a 4x4 Camping car with roof top tent and camping equipment from a Namibia car hire or car rental company in Windhoek.CAPRIVIThe Caprivi in the north-east of Namibia is a narrow strip of land, 450 km long and up to about 100 km wide, which was added to Namibia’s main body like an artificial limb. It was conceived on the drawing board in 1890 as a result of a swap agreement between Imperial Germany and Great Britain. The name of the newly acquired strip of land was chosen in honour of the German chancellor of the time, Count Leo von Caprivi.Explore Namibia yourself with a 4x4 Camping car with roof top tent and camping equipment from a Namibia car hire or car rental company in Windhoek.WINDHOEKIn downtown Windhoek it is often the many examples of German colonial architecture under the dazzling blue African sky, which are selected as subjects for photos: the equestrian monument commemorating the casualties of the 1904 uprising; behind it the Alte Feste fort, lined by palm trees; Christuskirche (Christ’s Church) in front of the well-kept gardens of Tintenpalast (Ink Palace), the House of Parliament; and the neatly preserved railway station northwest of the city centre.Explore Namibia yourself with a 4x4 Camping car with roof top tent and camping equipment from a Namibia car hire or car rental company in Windhoek.NAMIB NAUKLUFT PARKis the largest nature conservation area in Africa, extending between the tarred road Aus-Lüderitz in the south and the Swakop River in the north, and from the Atlantic coast in the west to the highland in the east. The desert – so vast, so isolated, so inhospitable but nevertheless so diverse, so colourful and so much alive.Explore Namibia yourself with a 4x4 Camping car with roof top tent and camping equipment from a Namibia car hire or car rental company in Windhoek.KALAHARIEmbracing eastern Namibia and western Botswana, the Kalahari forms a large basin which stretches from north-eastern Namibia down to South Africa. Lines of parallel red dunes, usually with tufts of tall grass, are a characteristic feature. Due to underground water gnarled old acacias can often be found in the valleys between the dunes. As unbelievable as it may sound: this dry, inhospitable landscape is the habitat of many animal species.Explore Namibia yourself with a 4x4 Camping car with roof top tent and camping equipment from a Namibia car hire or car rental company in Windhoek.LUDERITZmore than 100 years old, is situated on a forbidding and varied stretch of coast. The grey Gneiss serves as an attractively austere backdrop to the town and its buildings, some of which are gaily coloured. The history of Lüderitz fills volumes. It is about Portuguese seafarers, British whalers and sealers, a merchant from Bremen and German fortune-hunters. Early birds can choose between a ‘hearty’ or a ‘healthy’ breakfast and for the sweet tooth there are croissants, muffins and scones with butter and cream and different preserves, as well as a selection of cakes and other desserts. Climate and Seasons
Description: just as Namibia is filled with contrasting geography, equivalent climactic differences do apply depending on your location. Partially covered by the Namib, one of the world's driest deserts, Namibia's climate is generally very dry and pleasant. The cold Benguela current keeps the coast cool, damp and free of rain for most of the year. Inland, all the rain falls in summer (November to April). January and February are hot, when daytime temperatures in the interior can exceed 40ºC (104ºF), but nights are usually cool. Winter nights can be fairly cold, but days are generally warm and quite nice. The bottom line: Namibia is a year-round destination. Just pack accordingly.Tel: NA | Fax: NA
Culture in Namibia
Description: various cultures during colonization, and now reborn from the shadows of Apartheid in 1990. What has emerged is a true sense of unity in diversity – the coming together of at least 11 major ethnic groups, each celebrating their past while working together toward the future. You’ll notice this in dress, language, art, music, sport, food and religion. There exists a wonderful collage, but first and foremost, Namibians are proud to be Namibian. And for good reason.Tel: NA | Fax: NA
